We made it!

We are here...FINALLY!!!

After 24 hours of travel, we have checked in at the Disney Hollywood Hotel in Hong Kong, had dinner, baths, and the other 2 Martindales are snoozing away.  That, my friends, is a miracle.  You see, it is midnight in China, and if my math is correct, 10am in NashVegas.  Fingers crossed that round one of getting on "China Time" is working.

I'm not going to lie; the flight from Chicago to Hong Kong was brutal.  We decided to pay a little extra and go with "Economy Plus," and boy was that the right move.  It gave us a little more leg room, and each seat had its own TV screen and many, many choices of things to watch.  We knew we had hit the jackpot when "Frozen" was on the movie list.  :)  One other feature of this handy-dandy TV was a map feature where you could watch the flight path and where we were at any given time.  When we got on the plane, the estimated remaining travel time was 15 hours and 19 minutes.  Do you want to know what's really demoralizing?  Watching that crazy estimated remaining travel time.  At one point when I thought I was going to lose my mind, we still had 8 hours to go.  8 hours?!?

I can tell you that little Miss Ansley is a trooper.  She slept over half of the flight.  She took a normal 2 hour nap and then slept the last 8 hours of the flight.  In between, she colored, did stickers, iPad games, watched movies, etc.  She did really, really well.

The flight attendants could not have been nicer.  One went the extra mile when Ansley was sleeping during one of the meal services.  She basically made up a special meal for her once she woke up.  So, so nice.  Most of the crew was Asian but bilingual.  The pilots appeared to be American.  They fed us 2 meals and one snack: sweet and sour chicken for one meal and an omelet for the other meal.  The snack was a turkey sandwich on a small roll with some vanilla gelato.

The Hong Kong Airport was very nice.  All of our luggage made it (Thank goodness!)!  We had no problems going through immigration.  We took a bus to a train station and then 2 trains and another bus to get to the hotel.  Philip makes a great Sherpa.  He has a backpack on the back, a backpack on the front, and is rolling 2 large suitcases.  I will try and post a picture tomorrow.  At one point we had to climb 3 flights of steps with all of our stuff. All part of the adventure...the good news is that we made it with no breakdowns, crying, or drama so far.

Another thing is for sure...Disney is universal.  Seeing all of the happy kids get off of the train that had just left Disney is the same in HK as it is in Orlando.  And actually, the weather is quite similar as well.  It is hot and humid here.  We are looking forward to our day at Disneyland Hong Komg tomorrow.

Thanks for everyone's sweet comments, thought , and prayers.  We appreciate you!  Hopefully, we can update again tomorrow.  Take care!
Jill
